ADVICE

I have bought some stainless steel nuts and bolts and the nut has siezed on the bolt before they are tight?

This is a common problem that occurs between similar metals such as stainless steel or brass, it is called GALLING. Some of our customers will use A4 nuts with A2 bolts, this seems to reduce the problem dramatically. Or a company called Action Can produce a product called Copper Anti Seize (CS-90), which prevents metal to metal contact and seizing of threads. CS-90 can be found here.

How do I hang my flat screen TV on the wall?

We sell a product called Multi fix stella fixings, these have been specially designed for plasterboard. Found here

I have bought Zinc Plated socket cap screws and the head has sheared.

This is called Hydrogen Embrittlement, Which only occurs on fasteners over 10.9 Grade when being plated. Hydrogen on a very rare occasion gets trapped in the metal structure during the plating process and causes the fastener to become brittle. As I have stated this a rare occurance however we do not reccomend the use of these fasteners in safety critical positions. These fasteners are only meant for corrosion resistants, decorative use. Please see below for more information on Hydro Embrittlement.

Hydro Embrittlement:
In spite of all the precautions taken during electrolytic surface coating, the danger of fracture as a result of hydrogen embrittlement can never be completely eliminated. This applies to articles with mechanical properties for which the tensile strength is Rm > 1000 N/mm2 (this includes class 10.9,12.9 and higher) and/or the hardness is partially or completely higher than 320 HV. The risk of fracture is largely eliminated by a special heat treatment (see ISO 4042)

We recommend to think critically whether articles that may be vulnerable to hydrogen embrittlement require an electrolytic surface treatment. Equivalent methods of surface coating can be used without the risk of hydrogen embrittlement.

Wentin Fasteners Accepts no responsibility whatsoever for the development of cracks as a result of hydrogen embrittlement. This also applies to products that are subjected to electrolytic or chemical treatment by third parties after delivery.
